Like dialect in Thailand, customs differ from region to region, and on your travels up and down the country, you are likely to come across many a different custom and tradition. Unopened Gifts Should you visit a Thai home and take a present for your host, you may find it is put on the side and left unopened. Don’t be offended by this, though. It is actually considered rude to rip the present open there and then in front of the giver. A Thai person is more likely to wait until you have left to open the gift. Asking a Ghost’s Permission Historically, overnight visitors to a Thai home were requested to ask permission from the phra phum spirit ghost of the land to stay in the house. The visitor would then be asked to thank the ghost when they left. This custom still exists in some rural areas of the country, but you probably won’t be asked to do this as a foreigner. However, some Thais will even perform this ritual before going to sleep in a hotel room. Keeping Your Cool Raising your voice is unacceptable in Thailand and considered an act of losing control.

A reply to the moderator’s comment should suffice. Any post or comment that argues that an entire religion or cultural group commits actions or holds beliefs that would cause reasonable people to consider violence justified against the group as a whole will be removed. All posts must either contain an argument or ask a question that could lead to debate. Either way, you must state your own views on the matter in the body of every post. If you quote or link to something for the purpose of starting a debate, you must provide your own argument for or against it.
Each thread must be an argument for the position you are debating with your own original text.
Marrying someone from another culture [could] mean that one of you will be living outside of your home nation permanently. This means that you will not be able to see your family very often. It also means your children will see very little of at least one set of parents (their grandparents).
Controversy[ edit ] Anthropologist Helen Fisher in What happens in the dating world can reflect larger currents within popular culture. For example, when the book The Rules appeared, it touched off media controversy about how men and women should relate to each other, with different positions taken by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and British writer Kira Cochrane of The Guardian. Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date.
Don’t leave drinks unattended; have an exit plan if things go badly; and ask a friend to call you on your cell phone an hour into the date to ask how it’s going. If you explain beautifully, a woman does not look to see whether you are handsome or not — but listens more, so you can win her heart. That is why I advise our boys to read stories and watch movies more and to learn more beautiful phrases to tell girls. The Internet is shaping the way new generations date.
Facebook , Skype , Whatsapp , and other applications have made remote connections possible.

Life in Antarctica Imagine a whole world covered in ice and snow: Take people from all over the country, from all walks of life, and from the entire ethnic and socio-economic spectrum, toss them together in this stunningly beautiful, exotic, and hazardous landscape, then season the mixture with isolation and deprivation. Do this for about forty years.
To understand that culture, you have to understand the place.

Should I not be the first to text? That said, there are not-so-little things that can cause friction too. Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley: What does that mean? No more texting games. And continued to call when he said he would and replied to messages fairly quickly. This alone is a reason why I refuse to go back into the dating pool with guys my own age. Should Race or Skin Color Affect Who You Date
Martin Luther King’s speech goes, I’ve been brought up to not judge people by the colour of their skin, but rather by their character. I cannot control how someone may view me, but I can choose how I view the world. So when it comes to dating, race is not an issue, but an individual’s character is! While some people prefer to date within their own race, there are also those who prefer to date strictly outside of their race.
It is always interesting to study other cultures and it is extremely important to do just that if you are going to have interactions with them. China is one of those interesting cultures mainly because what we usually know about the country is through movies or the local Chinese restaurant. Sincere study of a culture is the only way to truly appreciate the differences. So, being an American what do I see as the 10 biggest cultural differences between the two countries?
It took a long time to narrow it all down since we could get so detailed that an encyclopedia would be the end result. But the sweat over the computer paid off. These differences do not make either culture better or worse than the other one. It just shows their differences which has been created through centuries of history and development. China can trace their traditions and customs for thousands of years.
America is still a small babe of a nation that has had very few traditions of its own but has become such a melting pot of cultures that there is almost no specific American culture that can be said is applied across the board.

3 Things to Remember When Dating Outside Your Race. by Brooke Betts. March 20, it’s quite possible you’ll find yourself dating someone of another race. Here are three tips should you go down that potentially bumpy, yet rewarding path: Be sensitive to their feelings.
Dating someone from another culture is something that can at once be beautiful and fascinating, but it does come with its own unique set of challenges, and in some cases these challenges might be more than you would face in a relationship with someone from your own culture. For example it may well be the case that in dating someone from another culture you find you have very different beliefs views and values. For example, if you have children and you are from two different religions, then how do you decide which one to bring the children up with?
Likewise if you celebrate different holidays do you choose just one? And then there are the problems that can be faced by your friends and relatives, with many cultures not smiling on marriages or dating between cultures. All this can mean that for many people dating outside of their culture or even nationality seems to be more trouble than it is worth. However this is to miss out on many of the fantastic opportunities it brings.
You can then take the best that both your traditions have to offer and create something new and unique. If you do have children as well you can expect them to be far more worldly and understanding than most children are. At the same time it might surprise you to learn that mixed nationality children have far better genetics and are much more immune to genetic illness than children from other cultures.
More to the point though, if you love someone, and if you really enjoy being around them, it would be a terrible travesty for your culture or religion to stand in the way of you being together. Even if you do have differences, these might be the things that attract you to each other, and like any relationship they are worth fighting for if you want to be happy. It is also important to recognise that we all have different beliefs and cultures, and that no two people are really completely alike.
If you go out with someone from the same culture, and even from the same exact region, that does not mean there will not be disputes.

Modern Iraq covers almost the same area as ancient Mesopotamia, which centered on the land between the Tigres and the Euphrates Rivers.
